Question 221560: Hello my name is Wanda, I have been trying to solve this by using the substitution system.
The question is: A class of Math A 30 students contains twice as many girls as boys. Last Friday, when two of the boys were absent and all the girls were there, the number of girls tripled the number of boys. How many boys and how many girls are in the class?
These are the two equations I came up with. But I just can't make it work.
2G = B
3G = B - 2

(2x+120)(2x+53)=9000
I have this:
9000=4x^2+240x+106x+6360
9000-9000=4x^2+346x+6360-9000
0=4x^2+346x+2640
I'm stuck after that because I can't get it to divide evenly.

Together, both teams scored a total of 130 points. How many points did the Florida Gators score during the game? This is what I have started with -16-3+X=130 is this right? Or is it all wrong?

Question 222709: Two numbers have a difference of 10 and a sum of 34. What are the numbers?
We came up with x+y=34 and y-x=10
If you plug in numbers, it would stand to reason that X=10 and Y=24 -- yet this doesn't seem like it is answering the question.

Question 222807: Copy solutions rents a copier for $240 per month plus 1.8 cents per copy. A law firm needs to lease a copy machine for use during a special case that they anticipate will take 3 months. They allot a budget of $1500 for copying costs. How many copies can they make and stay within budget?
I have tried to work it out like this
240 + 1.8c = 1500 but I know that I am missing the fact that the 240 is a monthly rate. Please, any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

y+4=x
but i can't get it to work work.
