Question 988816: Of the 750 tickets sold to a movie, 510 were full-price tickets costing $8 each. If the gate receipts were $5,040, what did a student ticket cost?
Answer by rothauserc(4718) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let s be the number of student tickets, then
s + 510 = 750
subtract 510 from both sides of =
s = 240
let x be the cost of student ticket
(510 * 8) + (240 * x) = 5040
4080 + 240x = 5040
subtract 4080 from both sides of =
240x = 960
divide both sides of = by 240
x = 4, therefore
a student ticket cost $4
