Let x b any integer.
2x will be an even integer.
2x and 2x+2 are two consecutive even integers. Alternatively, 2x-2 and 2x are two consecutive even integers.

Let x and y be two real numbers.
If their sum is 18, then x+y=18;
if their difference is 4, and if y>x, then y-x=4.
