June has 10 more five-dollar bills than ten-dollar bills, and she has ninety-five dollars in all.
How many five dollar bills does she have?
========================
Without the "10 more" $5's, she has $45 in an equal # of $5's and $10
--> $45/$15 = 3 of each
--> 3 $10's and 13 $5's

Answer by ikleyn(52834)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Let  x  be the number of ten dollar bills June has.

Then the number of five dollar bills in her possession is  x+10.

In total,  June has  10x + 5(x+10)  dollars,  which is  $95.

It gives you an equation

10x + 5(x+10) = 95.

Solve it step by step:

10x + 5x + 50 = 95,

15x = 95 -50,

15x = 45,

x = = 5.

Hence,  June has  5  10-dollar bills and  5 + 10 = 15  of  5-dollar bills.

.
F=number of $5 bills; T=number of $10 bills=F-10
.
$5F+$10T=$95
$5F+$10(F-10)=$95
$5F+$10F-$100=$95
$15F=$195
F=13
ANSWER: She has 13 $5 bills.
