0.05*x+0.1*y=3.50
x=36-y
Substitute for x
0.05*(36-y)+0.1*y=3.5
Multiply out
1.8-0.05*y+0.1*y=3.5
Combine like terms.
0.05*y=1.7
Isolate y
y=34 dimes
x=36-y
Calculate x
x=2 nickels
Check
0.05*2+0.10*34=3.50
0.10+3.40=3.50
3.5=3.5
