The ratio of Jack to Stan's money is 1:7.
If Stan gives $39 to Jack they will have the same amount.
How much do they have altogether ?
:
let x = the multiplier
then
1x = J's money
7x = S's money
and
8x = total altogether
:
"If Stan gives $39 to Jack they will have the same amount. "
7x - 39 = x + 39
7x - x = 39 + 39
6x = 78
x = 78/6
x = 13 is the multiplier
:
" How much do they have altogether ?
8 * 13 = $104 altogether
