Start with 1.25.
Change to 1.25+0.75=2.00.

Amount of increase was given, 0.75.
What PERCENT increase, how many parts of 100 original parts?

, a proportion.
p is the number of parts in one-hundred parts of the starting number.
Seventy five hundreds is how many parts per hundred original parts of 1.25?

Just solve the proportion.

To find percent increase, take amount of increase ($0.75) divide by the original amount ($1.25) and multiply by 100%.
$0.75/$1.25=0.60 and (0.60)(100%)=60%.
