Question 958686: A company makes toy cars. It sells red cars for $2 each and black cars for $3 each. If the company sold 44 cars total and made $105, how many red cars were sold?
Answer by macston(5194)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
R=red cars; B=black cars
R+B=44
R=44-B
$2R+$3B=$105 Substitute for R.
$2(44-B)+$3B=$105
$88-$2B+$3B=$105 Subtract $88 from each side.
$1B=$17 Divide each side by $1.
B=17 They sold 17 black cars.
R=44-B=44-17=27 ANSWER: They sold 27 red cars.
CHECK:
$2R+$3B=$105
$2(27)+$3(17)=$105
$54+$51=$105
$105=$105
