A+C=60
A=60-C
$11A+$6C=$460 Substitute for A
$11(60-C)+$6C=$460
$660-$11C+$6c=$460 Subtract $660 from each side.
-$5C=-$200 Divide each side by -$5
C=40 ANSWER 1: There were 40 children's tickets sold.
A=60-C=60-40=20 ANSWER 2: 20 adult tickets were sold.
CHECK:
$11A+$6C=$460
$11(20)+$6(40)=$460
$220+$240=$460
