She has found two trucking companies that are willing to make sure her food arrives intact. Peter愀 Pick Up charges $0.40 per mile and charges a flat fee of $68. Helen愀 Haulers charges $0.65 per mile and charges a flat fee of %23.
For what distance would the cost of transporting the food be the same for both companies? What is that equal cost?

P=Peter's; H=Helen's; m=miles
P=$68+$0.40m
H=$23+$0.65m
When cost is equal:
$68+$0.40m=$23+$0.65m Subtract ($23+$0.40m) from each side.
$45=$0.25m Divide each side by $0.25
180mi=m ANSWER:Both companies charge the same at 180 miles
P=$68+$0.40(180)=$140 ANSWER: The equal cost would be $140.
CHECK:
H=$23+$0.65(180)=$23+$117=$140 (same)
