5d+6d-1.50=6.20
11d=6.20+1.50
11d=7.70

Let's call the hot dogs d and the hamburgers h. And you say that:
5d + 3h = 6.2 And:
h = 2d + .50; h = 2d + .50
Substitute in the first equation:
5d + 3(2d + .5) = 6.2
5d + 6d + 1.5 = 6.2 subtract 1.5 from both sides and add the d's on left
11d = 4.7
d = 4.7/11 = 0.43 per hot dog. And the hamburgers:
h= 2(0.43)+ .50 = 1.36
Proof:
5(.43)+ 3(1.36) = 2.15 + 4.08 = 6.23 We've got the correct answer. I got 6.23 instead of 6.20 I think because of rounding of decimals.
