Question 943908: You need to distribute eleven candies to 3 kids. The first one must have 3 candies more than the second one and the second one must have 2 less than the third one. How many candies will each receive?
Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First kid=F=S+3; Second kid=S=T-2; Third kid=T=S+2
F+S+T=11 substitute and solve for S
(S+3)+(S)+(S+2)=11
3S+5=11 subtract 5 from each side
3S=6 divide each side by 3
S=2 ANSWER Second kid gets 2 candies
F=S+3=2+3=5 ANSWER First kid gets 5 candies
T=S+2=2+2=4 ANSWER Third kid gets 4 candies
CHECK
F+S+T=11
5+2+4=11
11=11
