perimeter of rectangle = 460 ft
let width be x ft
If the length of the garden is 10 ft. less than 3 times its width
then length = 3*x-10
formula: perimeter of rectangle =2( length+width)
but perimeter = 460 ft
460 = 2( (3x-10)+x)
460= 2(3x-10+x)
460= 2( 4x-10)
divife with on both sides
add 10 on both sides
230+10 =4x-10+10
240= 4x
divide with 4 on both sides
Hence width (x)= 60 ft
length =3*60-10
=180-10
=170 ft
length = 170 ft
Result : length =170 ft width =60 ft
