Question 939767: A movie theater charges $10 for adult tickets and $7 for child tickets. On a particular day, they made $1475 in ticket sales. They also know that they sold 170 tickets altogether. This means they must have sold adult tickets and child tickets.
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x= number of adult tickets
y= number of child tickets
1 x + 1 y = 170 .............1
10 x + 7 y = 1475 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -7
Multiply (2) by 1
-7 x -7 y = -1190
10 x + 7 y = 1475
Add the two equations
3 x = 285
/ 3
x = 95
plug value of x in (1)
1 x + 1 y = 170
95 + y = 170
y = 170 -95
y = 75
y = 75 1
x= 95 number of adult tickets
y= 75 number of child tickets
