Question 939383: Please help with this word problem.
A tour bus charges a pickup fee of $4.00 plus an additional $0.75 per mile traveled. If the total cost of the tour bus ride was $35.50, how many miles were traveled.
Answer by srinivas.g(540) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
pick up = $ 4.00
total cost = $ 35.50
cost for only traveling excluding pick up cost = 35.50-40 = 31.50
we are now left with $31.50
cost per mile = $0.75
no of miles = cost of traveling/ cost per mile
= 31.50/0.75
= 42 miles
Result: distance traveled = 42 miles
