Question 897363: At the beginning of the day, the cash register at the coffee shop contains $55. At the end of the day it contains $928.30. If the sales tax rate is 6.5%, how much of the total is sales tax?
I have subtracted the $55 from the total then multiplied .065 by the remainder and my answer still does not match with what the back of the book says. I've tried a couple of different ways but since I don't have the book right in front of me and am working off of what I have had my classmates send me, I am stuck!

At the beginning of the day, the cash register at the coffee shop contains $55. At the end of the day it contains $928.30. If the sales tax rate is 6.5%, how much of the total is sales tax?

928.30 - 55 = 873.30
-----
If 6.5% of this is tax,
sales + 0.065sales = 873.3
1.065*sales = 873.3
sales = 820
---
Then tax = 873.3-820 = $53.30
