Let the number of douglas fir be "x"; value of these is 300x dollars

Number of pines is "850-x" ; value of thes is 250(850-x) = 212500-250x dollars

EQUATION:
value + value = 217,500
300x + 212500-250x = 217,500
50x = 5000
x = 100 (# of douglas fir)
850-x=750 (# of pine)
