Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Monica had some cookies.
let x = the original no. of cookies
:
She gave seven to her sister.
x - 7 = no. of cookies then
:
Then she divided the remainder in half and she still had five cookies.
x - = 5
multiply eq by 2 to get rid of the denominator
2x - x - 7 = 10
x = 10 + 7
x = 17 cookies
