Let x and y represent the cost of the tulips and daffodil's respectively

  3x + 11y = $263

  8x +  5y = $239

  8*3x + 8*11y = 8*263

  -3*8x- 3*5y = -3*239

         73y = 1387

           y = $19    and x = $18    from   3x + 11y = 263

CHECKING our answer***

8x +  5y = $239

 = $239
