1. Ann's age is seven-tenths of bill's age. In 4 years Ann's age will be eight-elevenths of bill's age. How old is Bill now?
-----------
NOW DATA:
Let Bill be "x"; Ann is (0.7)x
------------------------
IN FOUR YEARS DATA:
Bill will be "x+4"; Ann will be 0.7x+4
-------------
EQUATION:
In 4 years Ann will be (8/11)Bill
0.7x+4 = 0.8*(x+4)
(7/10)x + 4 = (8/11)(x+4)
Multiply thru by 110 to get:
77x + 440 = 80x + 320
3x = 120
x=40 (Bill's age NOW)

2. The ten's digit of a two-digit number is 3 more than the unit's digit. The number is 8 more than six times the sum of the digits. Find the number?
-------------
COMMENT: any 2 digit number can be represented as 10t+u where t is the tens
digit and u is the units digit
---------------
EQUATIONS:
t=u+3
10t+u = 6(t+u)+8
---------------
Rewrite and substitute to get:
4t-5u=8
4u+12-5u=8
u=4
t=u+3=7
---------
Number = 74

take 9 days; If A&C work together, the job will take 8 days. In how many days can each man working alone to do the job?
--------------
ABC DATA:
Time = 6 days/job ; Rate = 1/6 job/day
---------
BC DATA:
Time = 9 days/job ; Rate = 1/9 job/day
--------------
AC DATA:
Time = 8 days/job ; Rate = 1/8 job/day
----------------
A Rate = ABC RATE - BC RATE = 1/6 - 1/9 = 3/6*9 =1/18 job/day
--------
B Rate = ABC RATE - AC RATE = 1/6 - 1/8 = 2/6*8 = 1/24 job/day
---------
C Rate = BC RATE - B RATE = 1/9 - 1/24 = 15/9*24 = 5/72 job/day

1. Ann's age is 7/10 of Bill age.
Ann's, A = (7/10)*B
In 4 years Ann's age will be 8/11 of Bill age. How old is Bill?
In 4 years Ann's age will be = A + 4
In 4 years Bill's age will be = B + 4
Then the Equation is,
A + 4 = 8/11 ( B + 4 )
11( A + 4 )= 8 ( B + 4 )
11A + 44 = 8B + 32
8B-11A = 44 - 32
8B-11(7/10)*B = 12
B( 8 - 7/10 ) = 12
B( 3/10 ) = 12
B (3/10 )* 10 = 12 * 10
3B = 120
B = 40 Bill age
2. Let the value of 2 Digit number is = 10t + u
Let u = Unit digit
u + 3 = ten's digit
Value of a number = 10t + u = 8 + 6 ( u + u+3 )
10 ( u + 3 ) + u = 8 + 6u + 6u + 18
10u + 30 + u = 26 + 12u
12u - 11u = 30 - 26
u = 4 unit's digit
u + 3 = 7 ten's digit
The number is 74
