Question 842226: Last weekend, I was given my allowance, which is meant to last me all week. On Monday, I spent a quarter of my money on clothes. On Tuesday, I spent one third of my remaining money on a movie. On Wednesday, I spent half of my remaining money on candy. Finally, on Thursday, I spent my last $1.25 on a comic book. How much money in allowance did I receive?
Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1.25 is half of what she had on candy
2.50 is 2/3 of what she had for for the movie
2/3x=2.5
2x=7.50
x=3.75
3/4x=3.75
3x=15
x=5 dollars
from the beginning
He received $5.00 allowance
He spent 5/4 (1.25) for clothes
leaving 3.75
3.75/3=1.25 for a movie
leaving 2.50
He spent half of 2.5 (1.25)on candy
and finally he spent the last 1.25 on a comic book.
