Question 84208: 2. A professor started a project with a group of students, 60% of whom were boys. Due to some unavoidable reasons, six girls couldn't turn up, so the professor had to make some changes in the group. He admitted six boys. In doing so, the percentage of boys in the project increased to 75%. Find the number of boys and girls involved in the project initially.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Assume there were x students in the project.
Initially there were 0.6x boys
The professor admits 6 boys - there are now 0.6x + 6 boys.
The percentage of boys is now 75%
0.6x + 6 = 0.75x
Therefore - 0.75x - 0.6x = 6;
0.15x = 6
x = 6%2F0.15
x = 40
So, the number of boys initially was 0.60 * 40 = 24
and the number of girls was 40 - 24 = 16
