Question 817095: An adult ticket costs $11 and a child ticket is $6. The theater sells 60 tickets for $460. How many adult tickets (x) and children tickets (y) are sold?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x= number adult tickets
y= number child tickets
1 x + 1 y = 60 .............1
Total value
11 x + 6 y = 460 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -6
Multiply (2) by 1
-6 x -6 y = -360
11 x + 6 y = 460
Add the two equations
5 x = 100
/ 5
x = 20
plug value of x in (1)
1 x + 1 y = 60
20 + y = 60
y = 60 -20
y = 40
y = 40
x= 20 number adult tickets
y= 40 number child tickets
