40 cents tickets --------------x numbers ------------- value =40x
25 cents tickets --------------y-----------------------value = 25x
x+y=500
40x-25y= 70 *100 cents
1 x + 1 y = 500 .............1
Total value
40 x -25 y = 7000 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by 25
Multiply (2) by 1
25 x 25 y = 12500
40 x -25 y = 7000
Add the two equations
65 x = 19500
/ 65
x = 300
plug value of x in (1)
1 x + 1 y = 500
300 + y = 500
y = 500 -300
y = 200
y = 200
