Question 804749: Hi there! My name is Chelsea and I've never been very well at story problems. I can never figure out what's supposed to be what. This question is a two part question. Here's the scenario:
Tickets to a concert cost $12 in advance or $15 on the day of the performance. A total of 300 tickets are sold, and the total receipts were $4140. How many of each kind of ticket were sold?
The first question is determining the system of equations describing the relationship and the second part is to find the answer for the question in the problem. If I knew where to start, I think I could figure it out.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
Chelsea

First you need a Quantity relationship. There are a total of 300 tickets sold of two types, type and type , so:

Next you need a Value relationship. Type tickets have a value of $12 each, so the value all of the $12 tickets is . Similarly, the value of all of the $15 tickets is . The value of all of the tickets of both kinds is $4140, so:

Solve the 2X2 linear system for

Finally, you either are or are not GOOD at something, or you do or do not do WELL at something. But "...I've never been very well at story problems." isn't right.
