Question 8028: I am having a hard time solving this word problem. My old brain isn't as young as it was. Please help:
A truck, its driver and its load weight 43,320 pounds. The truck weighs 230 times the weight of the driver and the load is 30 pounds more than three times the driver�s weight. What is the weight of the load? I need help developing the linear equation and solving it.
Please - I am pressed for time.

Let's use T for the weight of the truck, D for the weight of the driver, and L for the weight of the load.
The first fact says , right?
The second fact says
The third fact says
The last two facts can be used to solve the first equation:
[replaceing T and L with their equals]
[adding up the D's and subtracting 30 from both sides]
[dividing both sides by 234]
Now we can put this value for D in the last equation:

Can you find the weight of the truck (T)? Does it equal 230(185)?
