Question 799013: i need to write a linear equation for the following word problem, one way rental for a truck is $45 per day and 37 cents per mile for every mile over 500, and round trip rental is $30 per day and $.10 per mile for every mile over 250

Can't be done. First of all, you need two equations not one, and second neither of them are strictly linear. Both must be piecewise functions where they are horizontal lines up to and including the mileage limit, and either a 37/100 slope or a 1/10 slope for the part above the mileage limit.
