Albert is 9cm taller than Barbara, who is 12cm taller than Carl. Together, their combined height is 393cm. How tall is Carl?
Could you please show full working and tell me the equation for Carl's height.

Hi there,
Heights:
Carl = x
Barbara = x + 12
Albert = (x + 12) + 9
Add all the heights:
x + (x + 12) + (x + 21) = 393
Remove brackets;
x + x + 12 + x + 21 = 393
3x + 33 = 393
3x = 393 - 33
3x = 360
x = 360/3
x = 120 cm
Heights:
Carl = 120 cm
Barbara = 132 cm
Albert = 141 cm
Total = 393 cm
