Question 779174: Tom has ten dollars to spend. He goes to the shops on the bus and spends all ten dollars. The bus fare is 1.50 dollars more than the shopping. HOw much is the bus fare?
Answer by psbhowmick(878) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the amount Tom spent on shopping be $x.
Bus fare: $(x+1.5).
Total amount spent = Up and down bus fare + shopping amount
10 = 2(x+1.5) + x
10 = 2x + 3 + x
3x = 7
x = 7/3
