At a benefit concert, 1200 tickets were sold and $3300 was raised. If there were $2 and $5 tickets, how many of each were sold?
------
Equations:
Quantity Equation:: x + y = 1200
Value Equation::: 2x +5y = 3300
----------------------------------
Modify for elimination:
2x + 2y = 2400
2x + 5y = 3300
-----
Subtract and solve for "y":
3y = 900
y = 300 (# of $5 tickets sold)
------
x + y = 1200
y = 900 (# of $2 tickets sold)
