Question 773247: A drama club sold 110 tickets to a play. A student ticket cost $5. An adult ticket cost $9. Total sales was $650 how many student tickets were sold? How many adult tickets were sold?
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x= Number of adults
y= Number of students
Total tickets
1 x + 1 y = 110 .............1
Total value
9 x + 5 y = 650 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -5
Multiply (2) by 1
-5 x -5 y = -550
9 x + 5 y = 650
Add the two equations
4 x = 100
/ 4
x = 25
plug value of x in (1)
1 x + 1 y = 110
25 + y = 110
y = 110 -25
y = 85
y = 85
x= 25 Number of adults
y= 85 Number of students
