Tom discovered that if he sums the suqares of a number and another number which is one less than twice the first number the result is two. Find Tom's numbers.
---------------------
1st: x
2nd: 2x-1
----
Equation:
x^2 + (2x-1)^2 = 2
x^2 + 4x^2 -4x+1 = 2
-----
5x^2 -4x -1 = 0
--------
(5x + 1)(x-1) = 0
------
x = -1/5 or x = 1
--------
If 1st = x = -1/5
Then 2nd = 2x-1 = -7/5
-----
If 1st = x = 1
Then 2nd = 2x-1 = 1
