Question 757538: Joe has a daughter called Jane. The sum of their ages is equal to 54 and the differences between their ages is 22. How old are they?
Answer by Cromlix(4381)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Joe's age = x
Jane's age = y
x + y = 54
x - y = 22
Add together.
2x = 76
x = 38
Substitute x = 38
in: x + y = 54
38 + y = 54
y = 54 - 38
y = 16
Joe's age = 38 yrs.
Jane's age = 16 yrs.
Hope this helps.
