Question 721041: Please help me answer this word problem : There are 2 strengths of white vinegar. A 5% solution and a 10% solution. how many milliliters of each solution must be mixed to make 50 mL of a 9% vinegar solution? solve using a linear system.
Answer by josgarithmetic(39617)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Choose variables for everything:
u = volume of the lower concentration material
v = volume of the higher concentration material
T = concentration of solution you want to make, 9%
U = lower concentration available materail, 5%
V = higher concentration available material, 10%
M = volume of resulting solution to make, 50 ml.

Write your equations:
and

Solve the System:
Solve the system for the unknowns, u and v.
Sometimes, exercises are assigned given values in a way to make solution process and computations easy or easier.
