The cost of having a luncheon catered at McKenzie Place depends n the number of meals served plus a fixed fee to rent the dining room. The cost for 20 meals is $170 and the cost of 60 meals is $310.
------
You are given information for 2 points relating # of meals and cost:
(20,170) and (60,310)
------------------------------
slope = (310-170)/(60-20) = 40/40 = 1
y = mx + b
Solve for "b":
170 = 1*20 + b
b = 150
Equation:
y = x + 150
----------------------
a) find the cost per meal
When x increases by 1 meal, cost increases by $1.00
--------
b) find the cost to rent the dining room
0 meals costs $150.00 (that is the cost of the dining room)
------
c) write an equation for the total cost of the luncheon in the form y=mx+b
y = x + 150
