let(40-x)=amt of 60% alcohol to be mixed
..
35%x+60%(40-x)=53%*40
.35x+24-.6x=21.2
.25x=2.8
x=11.2
40-x=28.8
amt of 35% alcohol to be mixed=11.2 liters
amt of 60% alcohol to be mixed=28.8 liters
