Let x = cost of oranges per kilo
Let y = cost of apples
:
write an equation for each transaction
6x + 5y = 419
5x + 7y = 488
:
Use elimination here, mult the 1st eq by 7 and the 2nd eq by 5
42x + 35y = 2933
25x + 35y = 2440
-------------------subtraction eliminates y, find x
17x = 493
x = 493/17
x = 29 is the cost of the oranges
