Question 684059: Please help me solve this equation: A bus is traveling with 52 passengers. When it arrives at a stop y passengers get off and 4 get on. At the next stop one-third of the passengers get off and 3 get on. There are now 25 passengers. Find y

Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
52 - y + 4
...

...

Multiply the entire equation by 3
177 - 3y - 56 + y = 75
177 - 2y - 56 = 75
121 - 2y = 75
-2y = 75 - 121
-2y = -46

...
Check
52-23+4 = 33

33 - 11 + 3= 25
Correct!
