Question 683497: Together Bill and Tom have $150. Tom has twice as much as Bill increased by $9. how much money does tom have?Bill have?
x=Bill y=Tom
x+y=150
x+(2y+9)=150
I get 97 and 53 but it doesnt compute - help

Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+y = 150
y = 2x + 9
x + 2x + 9 = 150
3x + 9 = 150
3x = 150 - 9
3x = 141
for Bill
47 + y = 150
y = 150 - 47
for Tom
