Suppose you use 10 gal to drive 208 mi. the car gets 18 mpg for the city and 25 mpg for the highway. find the number of city and highway miles you drove.
---------
Formula to use: distance/mpg = gallons
-----------------------------------------
Equation:
gallons + gallons = 10 gallons
x miles/18 mph + (208-x)/25 mpg = 10
----
x/18 + (208-x)/25 = 10
25x + 18(208-x) = 10*18*25
------
7x = 42*18
x = 6*18
x = 108 miles (city miles)
----
208-x = 100 miles (highway miles)
