Question 66149: A 30% nickel alloy is to be melted with an 80% nickel alloy. How many grams of each must be used to obtain 50 grams of a 50% nickel alloy?
Answer by josmiceli(19441)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = grams of 30% alloy
(50-x) = grams of 80% alloy
.3x + .8(50 - x) = .5*50
.3x + 40 -.8x = 25
-.5x = -15
x = 30
50-x = 20
You must mix 30 grams of the 30% alloy and
20 grams of the 80% alloy
check
.3*30 + .8(50 - 30) = .5*50
9 + 16 = 25
25 = 25
OK
