Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The total value of the $1 bills and $5 bills in a cash box is $124. There are 8 more $5 bills than $1 bills. How many of each are there?
-------------------
Value Equation: O + 5F = 124 dollars
Quantity Equation: F = O + 8
---------------------
Substitute for "F" and solve for "O":
O + 5(O+8) = 124
O + 5O + 40 = 124
6O = 84
O = 14 (# of $1 bills)
------------------
Solve for "F":
F = O + 8
F = 14+8 = 22 (# of $5 bills)
