How many mL of 10% HCL solution should be combined with 60% HCL solution in order to get a 50 mL 30% HCL solution?
.
Let x = amount (mL) of 10% HCL solution added
then
50-x = amount (mL) of 60% HCL
.10x + .60(50-x) = .30(x+50)
.10x + 30-.60x = .30x+15
30-.50x = .30x+15
30 = .80x+15
15 = .80x
18.75 mL = x
