Question 6298: Problem Solving Using Systems of Equations

8x+9y=1030 x=1030-9y/8
1x+1y=120 1(1030-9y/8)+y=120

-1y=-70 or y=70 HOW DID I COME UP WITH 70?

Answer by xcentaur(357)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
8x+9y=1030......[1]
1x+1y=120.......[2]

x=(120-y)
8x+9y=1030
8(120-y)+9y=1030
960-8y+9y=1030
960+y=1030
y=1030-960
y=70

x=(120-70)=50

Your answer of y=70 seems to be correct.
x=50,y=70

hope this helps,good luck
