Question 621583: A charity fundraiser consisted of a spaghetti supper where a total of 387 people were fed. They charged $6.80 for adults and half price for children. If they took in $2444.60, find how many adults and children attended the supper.
Answer by Maths68(1474)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Price of Adults' Supper = $6.80
Price of Children's supper = 6.80/2 = $3.40
Total Amount Collected = $2444.60
Let
No. Adults were = x
No. Children were = 387-x
(No. Children)*(price of children's supper)+(No. Adults)*(price of Adult's supper) = Total Amount Collected
(387-x)(3.40)+(x)(6.80)=2444.60
1315.80-3.40x+6.80x=2444.60
3.40x=2444.60-1315.80
3.40x=1128.80
x=1128.80/3.40
x=332

No. Adults were = x = 332
No. Children were = 387-x = 387-332=55

Check
No. Adults *6.80+ No. Children = Total Collection
332*6.80+55*3.40=2444.60
2257.60+187=2444.60
2444.60=2444.60
