Solve using elimination:
:
5x + 3y = 28
2x + 4Y = - 4
:
Multiply the 1st equation by 4, and the 2nd equation by 3, resulting in:
20x + 12y = 112
6x + 12y = -12
--------------------subtracting eliminates y
14x + 0y = +124
x = 124/14
x = 62/7
:
Find y using the 1st equation:
5(62/7) + 3y = 28
(310/7) + 3y = 28
3y = 28 - (310/7)
3y = (196/7) - (310/7)
3y = -114/7
y = -38/7
:
Check solution in the 2nd equation
2(62/7) + 4(-38/7) = -4
(124/7) - (152/7) = -4
-28/7 = -4
