Question 613804: Please help me solve this problem:
China earned a total of 100 medals at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. The number of gold medals earned was 23 more than the number of bronze medals. The number of bronze medals earned was 7 more than the number of silver medals. How many of each kind of medal did China earn?
So far I set up my equation as 100= x+23+x+7 (x counting as the medals). I'm very confused from this point. Thanks!

"total of 100 medals" ___ g + s + b = 100

"The number of gold medals earned was 23 more than the number of bronze medals" ___ g = b + 23

"The number of bronze medals earned was 7 more than the number of silver medals" ___ b = s + 7 ___ s = b - 7

substituting ___ (b + 23) + (b - 7) + b = 100 ___ 3b + 16 = 100

solve for b; then substitute back to find g and s
