Question 610248: Jerome started with 12/14 cups of flour. If he gave 2/6 to Jane and Nick gave him 6/10 then how many cups of flour did Jerome have in the end? Fraction must be in Simplest form
I figured it to be 76/60 or 1 4/15 is this right?

12/14 = 6/7

2/6 = 1/3

-----------------

So subtract 1/3 from 6/7:

6/7 - 1/3 = 18/21 - 7/21 = (18-7)/21 = 11/21

then add on 6/10 = 3/5

11/21 + 3/5 = 55/105 + 63/105 = (55+63)/105 = 118/105

So the answer is 118/105 (as an improper fraction) or as a mixed number

The question is not clear. Did he give 2/6(1/3) of a cup or 2/6 of what he had.
The 6/10 is even more vague. Why isn't 2/6 expressed in reduced form as 1/3 and the same with 6/10 for 3/5 and 12/14 as 6/7.
Assuming 3/5 cup and 1/3 cup
6/7-1/3+3/5
90/105-35/105+63/105
118/105
1 13/105
