How do I make an equation from the following word problem: A teacher gets paid $5.00 to teach a class plus the teacher gets an extra $10.00 for each student. There are 15 students in the class. If the teacher taught 5 classes and each class had 15 students how much money would the teacher make?
Let the teacher's pay be:y
Let the number of students be: x
Then the payment for the number of students is: 10x
The fixed payment per class is: 5
The equation for one class is:
y=10x+5
The equation for teaching 5 classes with 15 students each would be:
y=5(10(15)+5)
y=5(150+5)
y=5(155)
y=$775.00
There might be an easier way to set this up. This is just the first thing I thought of.
Happy Calculating!!!
