Question 550952: a teacher is buying school supplies company A is offering a discount for every dollar spent where as Company B is giving a higher discount for ever dollar spent over 20 dollars determine which is a better deal. i cant figure out how to put both of the into an equation form and i dont know if i should use substituion method or elimination because i dont know how much the teacher spent or how much the discount is

You are right there is so little information here, that it almost useless.
The only thing that you can say for sure is:
Co. A is the better deal for any amt $20 or less.

After that, the amt of the discounts determine how much more than $20 is Co. B a better deal.
